In 2021, the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony, conducted virtually due to Covid-19, honored several distinguished women for their contributions to the state and beyond. Among the inductees was Gerda Weissmann Klein, a figure of immense resilience and inspiration. Here is her remarkable story.

Gerda Weissmann Klein, a Holocaust survivor, has been a voice of hope and tolerance for over 35 years in Arizona. Her life, marked by indescribable tragedy during the Holocaust, also tells a love story of rare beauty and strength. She married Kurt Klein, a Jewish soldier who was part of the force that rescued her. Following her liberation, Gerda dedicated her life to sharing her experiences, aiming to inspire others through her journey of overcoming adversity. Her autobiography, “All But My Life,” has received prestigious accolades, including an Academy Award and an Emmy.

For the team at KB Woods, it was both an honor and a privilege to meet and interview Gerda in her home. Her eloquence and humor during the interview were remarkable, bringing light to even the darkest parts of her story.

Gerda’s induction into the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame is a fitting recognition of her contributions and her unyielding spirit. Her life story, as captured by KB Woods, continues to resonate with audiences, serving as a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
